What Is a Caveman Translator?

A caveman translator turns normal English into the cartoon caveman talk everyone knows: small words like the, a and is disappear, past tense turns back into the present, I becomes me, and modern things get stone-age names, so a phone is a talk rock. The table lists every word that was changed or dropped.

It is a joke style with simple rules, which also makes it a neat way to see which words in a sentence are doing the grammar work.

How to Use the Caveman Translator

  1. Type something normal

The more ordinary the sentence, the funnier the result.

  2. See what got cut

Dropped words show up in the table as (dropped).

  3. Copy and share

Use it in a chat, a caption or a party game.

Is This How Cavemen Talked?

No. Nobody knows how prehistoric people spoke, and there is no reason to think their languages were simple. Caveman talk is a comedy convention from cartoons and films, and this tool copies that convention.

The rules are blunt, so some results come out strange: “the show” and “show” end up the same. That is part of the fun.

Caveman Translator FAQ

How does the caveman translator work?

It drops small words like the, a and is, turns past tense into the present, swaps I for me and gives modern things stone-age names. Every change is listed in the table.

Why are some words marked (dropped)?

Caveman style leaves words out. The table shows them as dropped so you can see what was removed.

Is this how cavemen really spoke?

No. It is a comedy style. Real prehistoric languages are unknown.

Can it turn caveman talk back into normal English?

No. Dropped words can't be guessed back, so it only works one way.

Is it free?

Yes. No sign-up, and your text never leaves your browser.
